Every Business is a Safety Business
Satya Nadella had once predicted— “Every business is going to be a software business”.
And Gary Vee is always vocal about — “Every business is going to be a content business”
Both the gentlemen predicted these trends based on industry indications…
But…
…nature had other plans. Nature said “Every business is going to be a safety business.”
Safety First.
Today, transforming into a software business or content business is largely a consequence of being a safe business first.
Digital matters more because safety has trumped over comforts and profits. Or, looking the other way round, safety is the only way to regain the lost comforts and profits. Or, is it that digital is our first herd-reaction to avoid nature’s verdict?
Whatever be our intent, nature has imposed safety as a necessity.
Today, your value proposition matters only if it is ASSURED SAFE.
For example, comfortable stay is not enough, or digital booking of rides does not matter.
The question that businesses should be asking is how to integrate safety in all aspects of the value chain processes just like they would integrate software or content.
What are the best practices of safety?
How will you combine safety with your value proposition?
And no… It is not about competition.
You cannot say — “ I am safer than others or the safest”. You must be assured safe in your own right.
The need to think these lines,
— How can I be assured safe & fastest, rather than just the fastest?
— How can I be assured safe & finest, rather than just most loved?
— How can I be assured safe & most convenient, rather than just the most convenient?
And so on…
How will you make safety an integrated offering of your business?
And this is not just about responding to COVID, it is about the attitude and approach to certain values when exponential economic growth is not the only kind of growth that matters; when nature puts its foot down and growth has other meaning to it.
What if tomorrow nature enforces “CLIMATE FIRST”? How fast will you adapt and change? What will your value proposition be? How will your value chain change? What will be the growth parameters of your company, industry and economy?
Because when it “CLIMATE FIRST” happens, CSR and social impact initiatives will not be enough. CLIMATE will become the primary value chain concern.
In short, it boils down to this…
Are you ready with an agile and flexible value chain? Can your value chain deliver additional values integrated with the differentiated services or products that you are creating? Or, will you have to re-imagine your products and services?
What steps are you taking to move in that direction?
We must start exploring proactively. Or we will be forced to.
