Marketing is a product / service feature. It is a strategic function. It is a value proposition in itself.

Considering it anything less is waste of opportunity, time and money. Devaluing marketing is vanity. It eventually makes people in-charge desperate. Blinded by desperation they turn marketing into a sales support or worse a decorator service.

A double whammy.

Businesses who treat marketing department as a decoration service should stop calling that department as marketing. They shouldn’t call it design department either. There is no design in such an approach. They should simply call it an “expensive pastime”. Call it EP.

Marketing is product, service, strategy, design & value proposition — all in one. It is the biggest opportunity that a business has.

For many businesses marketing is an after thought. Force fitting marketing into a product / service is such a common place nowadays. And the effects are so conspicuously visible all over social media and in emails. Such a marketing is the fantasy land of business folks who want to dress their product with candies …

Under-valuing marketing as a support function soon results in bubbling up of following questions — Why is marketing cost so high? Why are leads drying up ? Why are there so many junk leads? How many likes ? Why is marketing cost only rising even after buying automation tools?

An early investment in value-based approach to marketing when building a product / service, is the only right way to do marketing. Rest is simply watering a big tree of ignorance (candies) …
